Jane Malcolm

Assistant Professor and Assistant Director, Library

In today’s world, discovering new information is just a click or a flip of a page away. Jane Malcolm is a researcher who makes full use of this concept. She is continuously seeking information for the benefit of herself and others.

When students or faculty are in need of library help, Malcolm is always eager to respond. Malcolm credits a “dedicated team of highly skilled library faculty and staff who work together to provide the best possible service to our students.”

At the request of the College of Business, she created a class on finding business information. Competitive Business Intelligence is a core course for MBA and Master of Management students.

Malcolm is passionate about empowering students to find accurate, relevant, and current information from the best sources available. She says, “I believe that if you know how to find, evaluate, and use information effectively, you will be more successful, not only in your courses but in life.”

After graduating from ORU and earning a Master’s degree in Library Science, Malcolm spent over 20 years in the corporate world doing business research in a wide variety of industries. In 2003, she realized that God had been preparing her to teach others what she had learned.

“God gave me an opportunity to invest in the next generation by training them to build excellent research skills,” she said. “In the corporate world, I learned the value of information and the power of being able to find it.” She continues to consult and conduct research for clients whenever she can, knowing the importance of keeping her skills sharp.

Malcolm’s favorite things about being back on campus are relating to current students and remembering her college years. She fondly recalls meeting her future husband just days after arriving on campus.

“I love how current students believe as strongly in the mission of ORU as we did then. They are passionate for God, eager to learn, and they want to change the world. There is a real sense of continuity because of the mission and vision of the school.”

Outside of the library and classroom, you might find Jane hiking, reading or traveling. In all she does, she has seen the fruit of committing her ways to the Lord. Although her career path has taken her many places, Malcolm is thankful that she was obedient and listened to God, because His plan has given her “the desires of her heart.”
